How it works

Three steps. No design skills.

  1. Upload your GPX

Export the track from Garmin, Strava, AllTrails, Gaia or your watch app. A planned route works too.

  2. Check the preview

In about a minute you see your route on the terrain with distance, ascent and high point. Choosing Framed? Add the hike name, start and finish, and the name for the sheet.

  3. We print it and post it

The disc is printed in layers and finished by hand. Framed orders go on the magnetic mount over your printed sheet in a white A4 frame. Then it is posted to you with tracking.

The bit people don't expect

Lift the mountains off the wall

The terrain disc sits on a magnetic mount on the front of the frame. Take it off to feel the ridges you climbed, hand it round the table, then set it back. The magnet holds it in place.

  1. On the frameStands proud of the sheet, on the wall or on its easel stand.
  2. Lift it offNo clips and no tools. It comes away in your hand.
  3. Put it backLine it up on the mount and the magnet holds it.

Preview before you pay

See your walk on the terrain in under a minute

Drop your GPX on the product page and the preview service draws your line on the real terrain, works out the numbers, and shows you what will print. Nothing is charged until you are happy with it.

  • Your route traced in red on real elevation data
  • Distance, ascent and high point worked out for you
  • Framed: add the hike name, start and finish, and a name for the sheet
  • Times and heart-rate stripped from the file before it is stored

One disc, two ways

On its own, or framed with the story

Every order is the same 120 mm terrain disc with your route inlaid in red. Framed adds a printed sheet with your hike and its numbers, in a white A4 frame.

Both are made to order in Australia from your own GPX, hand-finished, and posted free with tracking.

You carried it for six days. Now it sits on the wall.

Type 2 fun: miserable at the time, the best story afterwards

Why it exists

A photo shows where you were. This shows what it took.

Every big walk has a moment you keep coming back to: the climb that would not end, the saddle where the cloud lifted, the last kilometre into camp. A phone photo flattens all of it.

A Type 2 Tales disc keeps the shape of the country. You can see the climb, trace the valley with a finger, and point at the exact spot where it started raining.

Questions

Good to know

Anything else, just ask. A real person answers.

Contact us
Disc only or framed?

Both are the same 120 mm terrain disc with your route inlaid in red. Disc only (A$29.95) is the disc on its own. Framed (A$79) adds a printed sheet with your hike name, start and finish, your name, the elevation profile and the numbers, in a white A4 frame with an easel. On the framed one the disc sits on a magnetic mount and lifts off.

What's in the box?

Disc only: the 120 mm terrain disc. Framed: the disc, its magnetic mount, your printed sheet and a white A4 frame with a fold-out easel and a hanger.

Which apps can I export a GPX from?

Garmin Connect, Strava, AllTrails, Gaia GPS, Komoot, Suunto, Coros and most others. Look for "Export GPX" on the activity or route. A planned route works too.

Does the disc really come off the frame?

Yes, on the framed version. The terrain disc sits on a magnetic mount on the front of the frame. Lift it straight off to hold it or pass it around, then set it back on the mount and the magnet holds it in place.

What happens to my GPX file?

We remove timestamps, heart-rate and other sensor data as soon as it arrives, keep only the route line, store it privately, and delete it 90 days after your order is delivered (encrypted backup copies clear within 30 more days). We never sell or share it.

How long is the route allowed to be?

From a short summit walk to a multi-day trek. Very long routes are scaled to fit the disc, and the preview shows you exactly what will print before you pay.

Is the terrain real?

Yes. Elevation comes from open global terrain data, credited on every preview and sheet. Height is exaggerated slightly so the hills read clearly on a small disc.

Can I change the text after ordering?

Email us within 24 hours of ordering and we will update it if the disc has not gone to print.

Shipping and returns

Made to order

Draft copy: needs Bob / legal check before publishing

Shipping

We ship anywhere in Australia with tracking, included in the price. Each disc is made to order in Australia and finished by hand, so please allow time for making before dispatch. You will get a tracking link when it leaves the workshop.

Personalised items and returns

Every disc is made from your route and your words, so we do not accept change-of-mind returns. Please check the preview and the text before you order.

If something is wrong

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law still apply. If your disc arrives damaged, faulty, or not as described (for example the wrong route or a typo we made), contact us with a photo and we will repair, replace or refund it.
